Modern Conventions of Punctuation & Spacing
In modern writing it is expected that there will be spaces between words and letters and that punctuation will play the role of guiding a reader in their understanding, regardless of whether they read aloud or silently. Silent reading is no longer seen as absurd, rather we look strangely at people who sit in a room and read their book aloud with no perceivable audience.
